Based on his award-winning book The American Revolution and the Fate of the World, historian Richard Bell explores how America's fight for independence reshaped lives and nations across the globe.
The American Revolution was more than a fight between thirteen colonies and the British Crown. It was a global conflict that reshaped lives, nations, and empires around the world.
Join historian and award-winning author Richard Bell for a fascinating look at the Revolutionary War as a world-changing event whose impact stretched far beyond America's shores. From the Caribbean and Canada to India, Sierra Leone, and Peru, Bell explores how the Revolution sparked migration, political upheaval, new movements for liberty, and lasting global change.
Through the stories of soldiers, refugees, Indigenous leaders, and ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances, this program offers a fresh perspective on one of history's most familiar events. Discover the American Revolution as you've never seen it before: complex, international, and deeply connected to the world we live in today.
A reception will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the lecture and a book signing.
This program is presented in partnership with Talbot250, the Talbot County Free Library, the Oxford Museum, Talbot Historical Society, and the local DAR and SAR Chapters.
