Commemorative Themes
The Talbot250 Commission was established to commemorate two milestone anniversaries: the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States and the 365th anniversary of Talbot County’s founding. Through local initiatives and events, Talbot250 seeks to engage the community, foster pride, and celebrate Talbot County’s rich history and heritage.
Talbot250’s themes are intentionally broad, inclusive, and interpretive, offering multiple entry points for artists, historians, educators, organizations, and residents to explore Talbot County’s story through their own lenses.

At the heart of Talbot250 is a commitment to people and their stories. Rooted on the Water
Rooted on the Water reflects Talbot County’s deep and enduring connection to its natural landscape, including the Chesapeake Bay, rivers, farms, and working lands. This uniquely Talbot theme explores maritime traditions, agriculture, environmental stewardship, trade, and the ways generations of residents have lived and worked in relationship with land and water. It highlights how both watermen and farmers, past and present, have shaped the County’s economy, culture, and sense of place.
