Mid Shore Constitution Alliance Invites Community to Sign Declaration of Independence Banner During July 4th Week as America Approaches Its 250th Birthday
Easton, Maryland — June 2026 — The Mid Shore Constitution Alliance is inviting residents and visitors to participate in a unique community tribute to America's founding by signing a commemorative Declaration of Independence banner during the week of July 4 at the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library.
The initiative follows the organization's successful Declaration of Independence celebration held on June 13th during the St. Michaels Flag Day Celebration, part of the Talbot250, MD250, and America250 commemorative programs marking the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary.
State Senator Johnny Mautz joined community members at the event, sharing remarks on the significance of Flag Day, the Declaration of Independence, and Maryland's role in the nation's founding. Participants also enjoyed historical presentations and interactive augmented reality experiences featuring George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
Among the first individuals to sign the eight-foot commemorative banner were local philanthropists Chip and Sally Akridge, whose commitment to preserving and sharing American history includes helping establish the "51 Steps to Freedom Trail" in Washington, D.C. The eight-mile augmented reality experience connects visitors with America's ongoing journey toward liberty through historic landmarks and neighborhoods across the nation's capital.
The Declaration of Independence banner will be displayed at the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library throughout the July 4 holiday week, giving community members an opportunity to add their signatures as the nation prepares to celebrate America's 250th birthday in 2026.
Upon completion, the banner will be preserved in a time capsule maintained by Talbot County Government as part of the Talbot250 legacy, providing future generations with a record of local citizens' participation in this historic commemoration.
The Mid Shore Constitution Alliance plans to continue its America250 programming with a Constitution Day celebration in September as well as its second annual Constitution Bowl featuring 8 Mid Shore county high schools competing for scholarship prizes.
Community members are encouraged to visit the Easton branch of the Talbot County Free Library during the July 4 week to participate in this meaningful celebration of American history and the enduring ideals expressed in the Declaration of Independence.
