St. Michaels Celebrates America 250 Brings Community Together for an Unforgettable Flag Day Celebration
Recap of Flag Day 2026 - Semiquincentennial Celebration in St. Michaels, Md.
St. Michaels demonstrated the power of community during its "St. Michaels Celebrates America 250" Flag Day festivities, bringing together residents, businesses, nonprofit organizations, volunteers, and visitors for a week of patriotic events honoring America's approaching 250th anniversary.
Presented by the St. Michaels Parks & Recreation Advisory Board, the celebration transformed the town into a sea of red, white, and blue while offering opportunities to explore local history, enjoy live music, volunteer, and celebrate together. From community beautification projects and historical programming to concerts, family activities, and the inaugural Flag Day Picnic & Boat Parade, each event reflected the pride and spirit that make St. Michaels unique.
Many of the celebration's signature events began with a vision from Parks & Recreation Advisory Board member Andy Roberson, whose ideas inspired initiatives such as Clean Up & Dress Up the Town, the Parks & Poles History Walk, and the Flag Day Picnic & Boat Parade. Working alongside community organizations, businesses, town staff, and volunteers over many months, Roberson helped turn those ideas into a celebration enjoyed by thousands.
The success of the week was made possible through an extraordinary collaboration of community partners. Volunteers helped clean streets, install decorations, and prepare public spaces, while residents and businesses decorated homes and storefronts throughout town. Organizations including the Rotary Club, the Tourism Advisory Board, the St. Michaels Museum, the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the St. Michaels Community Center, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, Perkins Family YMCA, Chesapeake Independent Blues, Plein Air artists, the Classic Motor Museum, the U.S. Army Reserve 78th Army Band's 9x9 Ensemble, the St. Michaels Police Department, and the Town of St. Michaels all played important roles in bringing the celebration to life. Local businesses, including Lowe's of Easton, Bartlett Tree Experts, and ES Flagpoles, also contributed materials, expertise, and volunteer support that helped make the events possible.
One of the celebration's most memorable moments was the inaugural Flag Day Picnic & Boat Parade. Decorated boats traveled along the Miles River while spectators gathered along the waterfront to celebrate together, creating what organizers hope will become a lasting community tradition.
Visitors can still experience one of the celebration's signature attractions throughout the summer. The Parks & Poles History Walk remains open as a free, self-guided tour featuring 13 locations throughout St. Michaels. Participants can explore the town's history by walking, biking, or driving at their own pace while discovering stories that have shaped the community.

Although the Flag Day festivities have concluded, St. Michaels' America 250 celebration continues with the annual Children's Parade on July 4 and the community fireworks celebration on July 5.
The success of St. Michaels Celebrates America 250 is a reminder that America's 250th anniversary is being commemorated not only through historic milestones, but through neighbors coming together to celebrate the people, places, and traditions that define their communities.
