On Saturday October 24, 2026 our local Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) chapter will host its signature event of the year - The 3rd Annual Celebration of Colonel Tench Tilghman Week.

The Tench Tilghman chapter of SAR invites the community to:

• March behind their local organization’s banner during a parade to honor Colonel Tench Tilghman, his uncle Matthew Tilgman (known as the "Patriarch of Maryland" and the "Father of the Revolution in Maryland") and all our patriot ancestors.

• Place a wreath from their local organization at the grave of Solomon Barrott who is buried in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Easton.  Barrott was the last living member of the Maryland Line who died in 1851 at age 88, nearly 70 years after the war ended.  At the end of the ceremony we envisioned having members of the MDSSAR Color Guard dressed in their 1st Maryland regiment military uniforms give a 21-gun salute with their muskets to honor Solomon Barrott.

• Attend the presentation by bestselling author and historian, Patrick K. O'Donnell who wrote Washington's Immortals: The Untold Story of an Elite Regiment that Changed the Course of the Revolution. O'Donnell will tell the story of the Maryland 400 soldiers at the Battle of Brooklyn who saved George Washington's Continental Army from near-certain destruction. He has also agreed to weave in some stories of the African- and Native-American Soldiers who were members of Maryland's Revolutionary War Army.
