Step back into the music of America's founding era during this special community concert celebrating the nation's 250th anniversary.
Renowned music historians David and Ginger Hildebrand will present an engaging performance of patriotic songs, ballads, dance tunes, and theater music that would have been familiar to figures such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. Dressed in period attire, the duo will also demonstrate a variety of historical instruments, including the hammered dulcimer, violin, and Spanish and English guitars, while exploring the diverse musical traditions of early America.
For more than four decades, the Hildebrands have researched, recorded, and performed early American music at museums, historic sites, schools, and universities throughout the United States and abroad. Their work has been featured on C-SPAN, NPR, the BBC, and PBS, and they helped establish the Colonial Music Institute, now housed at Mount Vernon.
This free concert is a gift to the community in honor of America's 250th anniversary.
