Celebrate America 250: Discover Your Patriot Ancestors

  • Easton Family YMCA Peachblossom Road Easton, MD United States (map)

Many U.S. Citizens are descended from multiple American Patriots but are unaware of who these individuals were and the contributions and sacrifices their ancestors made to establish the United States of America on July 4, 1776.

Every family has a story—come learn how to find yours! This introductory genealogy class will teach you how to research your ancestors and obtain copies of the documents needed to join a lineage society like the SAR or DAR so you can experience a deeper connection to your patriot ancestors when you celebrate the 250th anniversary of the birth of America.

Whether you’re just beginning your family history journey or hoping to qualify for membership in a lineage society like the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) or Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), this class will give you the tools and know-how to succeed.

Participants may discover their ancestral roots in America do not run all the way back to the time of the American Revolution. However, the information gained in the workshop could also be used to identify the countries where your immigrant ancestors traveled from overseas to become Americans.

Along the way, we’ll share tips for keeping track of your discoveries and making sure your research is accurate and well-documented.  By the end of the class, you’ll have the skills and confidence to keep exploring—and a deeper appreciation for the people and stories that shaped your family’s past.
