The Talbot Historical Society uncovers and honors the stories of more than 550 African American men from Talbot County who served in the United States Colored Troops (USCT) during the Civil War. Many of these men were formerly enslaved, and their service represents a powerful chapter in the fight for freedom and citizenship.
This exhibit shares their names, stories, and contributions—restoring a critical part of local and national history that has too often been overlooked. Through thoughtful research and public education, the exhibit shines a light on Talbot County’s role in the broader struggle for emancipation and equality.
